HELP! I’M A MOTHER – STEPPING OUT IN FAITH

HELP! I’M A MOTHER – STEPPING OUT IN FAITH

For this month of January, I thought I would share my stepping out to do something I had been wanting to do for a long time. I finally started in January 2017, here I am two years later, January 2019. Sure, hope it encourages you to start that thing you have been wanting to do, this is the year to go for it,

The Beginning – January 2017
I thought to share my journey of stepping out in faith with you, in January 2017, I sent out the email below to all my friends about something I believed the Lord wanted me to do.

Email Sent January 2017
It is Kemi here, although I am excited, I am petrified at the thought of sending you this email invite.
Over the last eight months or so, I have had the thought of getting a group of mums together to pray for about 30mins once a month for our children via the web/phone.

It Is A Time To Act, Not Procrastinate
I kept procrastinating but thought as it is a new year, I would give it a shot: what is the worst thing that can happen? I will be honest, it did not come out of a need to be the super warrior prayer mum but firstly, from a desire to become a better one, or to put it another way a non-yelling mum!

Help Me, Jesus
Having been cautioned by my husband for the umpteenth time to take it easy and having to be reminded that I am the adult here in my dealings with son, I realised that I had better start crying out to Jesus for help, not least because of the dawning realisation that the world we live in is changing so quickly and rapidly and our children are experiencing unprecedented challenges and pressures that we could have no clue about.

My Story

My Growing Up Years Could Not Have Been More Different
When I was growing up, the most I got to listen to, was my much-loved music (on cassette tapes and my Walkman). I had a good laugh with my son when I went on YouTube and showed him clips of the Soul Train which was the highlight of my Sunday growing up and told him how I would try to copy the dance moves. His reality is very different.

The Enemy’s Wants To Ensnare Our Children And We Need To Go To The War Room
Our children’s senses are bombarded by images that are so strong, designed to attract and ensnare them in ways that we cannot even begin to imagine. Whilst growing up the truth was clear, but we are now living in a world where post truths exist and there are no black and white issues. Everything today has blurred lines; from sexuality and sexual preferences to new norms of variations of marriage as we know it, to gender complexities. You will agree with me that our children desperately need our prayers to be the salt and light they are meant to be in the world and to continue with our faith legacy despite the pervading societal culture. When we pray for our children we go into our “War Rooms” to fight the enemy”.

It Is Not My Fault It Is How I Was Brought Up
Aside from the external influences, there are also the internal challenges that we face as parents trying to grapple with our own upbringing in a different world; a world where when mum and dad spoke, you listened, and you did what was expected without questions. We are bringing up our own children in a different context; trying to juggle listening to them with exercising authority in a way that nurtures our relationship with them and empowers them to respond positively to our parenting out of genuine love and respect rather than duty.

Having said all, I am really a regular mum like everyone else trying to love and bring up my child in a way that is honouring to God and I am inviting you on this journey of discovery both for ourselves and our children. I know how busy we all are, and I believe that this journey of a thousand miles begins with one step and little drops make a mighty ocean.

Seeds Of Greatness
Every time we gather to pray for our children, we are laying tracks for them for the future and positioning them to be the arrows that God has made them. Every time we pray for them, like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth Psalms 127:4.

Our children are like seeds, praying for them is helping them become great every nurtured seed has the potential to grow to full bloom and when we pray for our children, we are unlocking their potential for greatness and that is why the prayer group is called Seeds of Greatness.

Update and Thank you
As I have reflected on my first email to you in January last year when I decided to act on a nudging I had felt for a bit but ignored, I am amazed that it is over 17 months already since our prayers for our children “Seeds of greatness” started. I am amazed at the relationships that I have formed with sisters near and wide in the UK, Nigeria, Ghana and America.

I am amazed at the number of children that I now have, as every child represented in the group through you lovely mums has become my point of contact child when I pray, thank you for the privilege I have of praying for all the children represented.

I am amazed at the fulfilment and burden I have to pray for and about our children’s destinies future and much more, I may be a mother of one child naturally at the moment, but I am no doubt a mother of many through this prayer group. Thank you.

I am amazed at what God is doing and will do concerning our children despite the unleashing of the plans of the powers of darkness, so wherever you may find yourself or children at the moment, please remember God promises over us and our children in Isaiah 54:13 “All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace”, So no matter what storm is raging around you remember the one who stills the storms is with you and His name is Jesus and we are victorious in Him”

January 2019 – Two years on Lessons Learnt
Your act of obedience will not only be a blessing to you but an opportunity for others to be blessed too. My life has been enriched through the monthly prayers for our children, testimonies have been shared with me with sisters through the prayers and I have formed relationships with more sisters, some I have never met but I know that God is using us to fulfil His plans for our children and the next generation.

It’s January 2019, what step do you need to take in faith. JUST DO IT. Our Father is already waiting. He is a Good Good father.
