17 Jul PURPOSE AND DESTINY…What on earth are we here for???
“When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable” – Myles Munroe
Almost everyone in the world at some point in their lives either consciously or unconsciously, desires to know the reason for their existence and in one way or the other, embark on a quest to discover it. Some engage in this through introspection, others through spiritual exercises like prayer and fasting, some others through traveling for self-discovery and others through volunteering for a cause. Whichever way one goes about it, when purpose is discovered, the feeling is second to none.
The most full-proof and fail-proof way to discover your purpose is by spending time with your maker – God. Just like the purpose of a machine can never be known without consulting with the manufacturer’s manual so also one’s purpose can never be fully discovered without seeking the face of God. He is our maker, He is our manufacturer, He is our creator.
Destiny is simply the reason why God created you. All humans were created to give God glory – “everyone who is called by my name, whom I have created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” – Isaiah 43:7. Your destiny however is the particular path you take towards giving God the glory in and through your life. It is the sum total of career choices, friendships, associations and social interactions, and the day-to-day decisions you make throughout the course of your life.
Purpose is the overarching goal for which you were created, whereas, destiny is the pathway towards achieving purpose. According to Tim Early “both are essential for the fulfillment of what you were created for. For purpose without destiny is like having no real life at all. It’s like being on earth illegally. Therefore, we must define life from a sense of destiny, by God’s purpose and design for our life, fulfillment, and the completion of God’s eternal purpose. We are to consider chiefly that God has a purpose in each of us to be fulfilled, for we are purposed and perfected with a purpose, and destined and designed with destiny.” (Source)
As children of God, we cannot afford to pass through life without realising our purpose and fulfilling our destiny. In order to achieve this, we must:
· Have an active relationship with God through daily prayers and bible study
· Never forget that you were created and brought to this earth for a reason
· Shut out the noise – reduce time spent on spiritually draining activities.
· Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit – once the noise is shut out, you will definitely hear the Holy Spirit leading and directing you.
· Whenever the Holy Spirit prompts or directs you, do so without delay and quickly
· A sum total of all these points on a daily basis has already placed you on a path of purpose discovery and destiny fulfillment.
Discovering one’s purpose and fulfilling one’s destiny is neither rocket science nor is it an onerous task if only we would know to go back to the One who created us and knew us before we were formed. “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born. I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” – Jer. 1:5 NLT. Would you like to know more about your purpose and God’s original design for your life?
